O segundo rio

I conceived the O Segundo Rio series (The second river) as a set of interconnected landscapes that encompass the riverside landscapes of the mangroves in the interior of Cabaraquara, with the fluvial landscapes of the Atlantic Forest of southern Brazil and also with the lacustrine landscapes of the interior of the continent, in the Pantanal. All these images arranged around dense vegetation. They are a counterpoint to another type of formal dialogue that I also did among other places of the oceanic coast of Cabaraquara, with stretched portions of landscape of the Guaraqueçaba Bay, of the Furados series, which are the portal located to the south of great stretches of Atlantic Rain Forest further north, and also with other stretches of the landscape of the northern Pantanal (the Laminares series). In these works, the landscape is defined only by a stretch of vegetation that occupies the skyline. The title of the series refers to the flowing of real landscapes before my eyes when visiting these remote locations of the Brazilian landscape (these “first” rivers), and also to the other river, whose flow is that of imagination and memory. This second river is present throughout the time, flowing together with the “first rivers”, composing a colossal psychic-geographic landscape, one that crosses and unite the continental spaces that separate these exceptional panoramic groups.

Eu concebi a série O segundo Rio como um conjunto de desenhos que estabelece um diálogo formal entre as paisagens ribeirinhas dos manguezais do interior do Cabaraquara, com as paisagens fluviais da Mata Atlântica do sul do Brasil e também com as paisagens lacustres do interior do continente, no Pantanal. Todas essas imagens construídas em torno de vegetação mais densa. Elas são um contraponto a outro tipo de diálogo formal que também fiz entre outros locais dos trechos da costa oceânica do Cabaraquara, com grandes porções de paisagem da baía de Guaraqueçaba, da série Furados, que são o portal situado ao sul dos grandes trechos preservados da Mata Atlântica imediatamente ao norte, e também com outros trechos da paisagem do norte do Pantanal (a série Laminares). Nesses trabalhos a paisagem é definida apenas por um trecho de vegetação que ocupa a linha do horizonte. O título da série se refere ao fluxo de paisagens reais que passam diante dos meus olhos ao visitar esses locais remotos da paisagem brasileira (os “primeiros” rios), e também ao outro rio, cujo fluxo é o da imaginação e da memória. Este segundo rio, está presente todo o tempo, fluindo junto com os “primeiros rios”, compondo um colossal conjunto psicogeográfico de paisagens, que atravessa os espaços continentais que separam esses conjuntos panorâmicos excepcionais.
